Totally Booked and Veem
The Veem Effect
On The Record
Totally simplifying payment processing
Kelly Gonsalves, Chief Visionary and Founder of accounting firm Totally Booked, has one main goal for her small business clients: simplify. Because many of her customers do not have deep accounting expertise in-house, Gonsalves provides end-to-end support, introducing them to digital solutions that create a more efficient and cost-effective process. It’s also why she’s been a Veem client since she first learned about the platform in 2017.
Gonsalves was turned on to Veem when she unearthed the hoops her first customer—a digital design firm—had to jump through to make international payments. Gonsalves put in countless hours of work identifying a way for the payee to recognize what the payment was for and reconciling the payment in her clients’ accounting system, with exchange rate uncertainties greatly complicating the process.
“I thought, ‘There has to be a better way,’ so I went to Apps.com and searched ‘global payments,’ and Veem popped up,” Gonsalves recalled. “I had nothing to lose—I was spending hours a day just creating payments—so I signed up. Once I tried it out, I never looked back.”
Gonsalves immediately benefitted from Veem’s transparency, clarifying transaction details and amounts both for the sender and the receiver. In addition, Gonsalves was impressed with the authentication around the payment.
“With Veem, you can verify the identity of the recipient, which you can’t do yourself when sending a wire, and it creates a different kind of background check security,” she noted. “For my clients, it can be scary sending money overseas, and Veem has expertise in that area and that helps put them at ease.”
In addition to time-savings and security, Veem offered a third benefit around global payments: cost-savings. Costs for sending international wires can climb to more than $30 per transaction, and the recipient of the payments frequently also incurs an inbound transaction fee, with most customers unaware of the two-sided hit. With Veem, customers pay no transaction fees for foreign exchange or for a Veem Wallet-to-Wallet transfer.
“ We help clients streamline QuickBooks and connect to third-party apps like Veem to save time and money,” she said. “Any time I walk through a QuickBooks set up, if the customer needs to pay vendors for anything, Veem is my go-to.”
The Veem Wallet is a game changer,” remarked Gonsalves. “Vendors in other countries can hold funds in U.S. dollars and pay other vendors and suppliers in U.S. dollars. They don’t have to pay exchange fees with their bank; they can hold that money and use it how they want.”
Beyond its streamlining of global payments, Veem touts another factor of importance to Gonsalves: strong customer support. As she works to simplify her clients’ accounting infrastructure, Gonsalves knows that from time-to-time, issues will arise. She wants to ensure that all of her digital partners provide a level of customer service that meets her own high standards.
In fact, Gonsalves shared that she ran into one such issue when an ecommerce client of hers was paying a vendor in India. Information was entered incorrectly in the transaction, mixing personal name and company name details, which resulted in the possibility of the transaction being held up for 20 days. The Veem team immediately stepped in, ensured the vendor got paid, and solved the issue. “Veem customer service has always been phenomenal, and when it comes to working with other countries, they have a specialist—sometimes in the other country—to work through issues with,” said Gonsalves. “They provide so much support to ensure you and your business are successful. It’s one of the many reasons why Veem is my top choice for payment processing.”
