Align Customer Profile: Jordan Tourism Board North America

Simplifying Small Business Payments

Align Commerce, formally changed to Veem in 2017.

This week’s Veem customer profile features an annex of the Embassy of Jordan in Washington D.C, the Jordan Tourism Board North America (JTBNA). JTBNA was officially launched in 1997 to create awareness of the travel opportunities in Jordan and to attract North American visitors to this vibrant country.

Located on the east bank of the Jordan River, Jordan is often incorrectly associated with the Middle East’s political upheavals, due to its location in a region that is experiencing turmoil. Surrounded by ancient monuments, nature reserves and seaside resorts, the country is very hospitable and safe to visit and has strong diplomatic ties with the United States.

Joey Angeles, office manager at the JTBNA, works to promote Jordan as a tourist destination through marketing activities, such as trade shows and media campaigns, held throughout North America, and was looking for alternative ways to make safe, reliable and more efficient international money transfers than existing bank wire transfers.

The burden of bank wires for SMBs

Joey’s main challenge with cross-border transactions was sending money to and from Mexico due to increased bureaucratic scrutiny, and a lack of standardization among the banks that served as middlemen for wire transfers. Joey’s bank wire transfers were routinely rejected without explanation. Faced with the need to pay his contractors, trade show suppliers and tour operator partners on time, he tried other methods of sending money, such as mailing checks. This proved to be costly and inefficient as the funds often took more than two weeks to arrive.

Upon hearing about Joey’s problems and discovering that his challenges were not unique to the JTBNA, Veem immediately began to look into addressing the issue by opening its Mexican corridor, allowing payments to be sent and received in fewer than three days.

“My counterparties went from receiving their money in two to three weeks, to receiving it in one to two days,” Joey said:

“There were times when my wire transfers were rejected by the receiver’s banks in Mexico for reasons that I don’t understand, but I don’t have to worry about that any longer. Align addressed this problem and my transactions became seamless.”

In addition to sending and receiving payments faster, all of JTBNA’s payments can now be tracked and organized through Veem’s simple and easy-to-use dashboard. Joey can forget about the hassle of sending international money transfers and focus on his priority: promote one of the most unique and misunderstood destinations in the world.
